Who are ChefSteps?
The team at ChefSteps can boast of some truly impressive credentials. The core of ChefSteps is made up of the team that worked on Modernist Cuisine: The Art and Science of Cooking. If you’ve haven’t heard of Modernist Cuisine, well may we please invite you to climb out from under the rock you are sitting under and knock yourself on the head with it!
We, at the Sous Vide Guys, view this 6 volume collection as one of the most superlative publications in the culinary world. This is a cookbook seen through geekiest of geek glasses. True to its name, they really look at cooking as both science and art. We find the scientific perspective of cooking truly refreshing and insightful and we love the art that’s in the beautifully shot pictures.
Clearly, the team at ChefSteps aren’t any average cooks or chefs. They are made up of 25 talents in various capacities but we’d just like to bring 2 names to your attention. The first is Chris Young. Chris is the principal coauthor of Modernist Cuisine and he was also one of the founding chefs of Heston Blumenthal’s Fat Duck Experimental Kitchen. The Fat Duck has been awarded 3 Michelin stars and is certainly one of the best restaurants in the world. And the Experimental Kitchen is the ‘research laboratory’ where they create, test and refine the culinary masterpieces that finally make it to the Fat Duck restaurant menu.
The other is Ryan Matthew Smith. Ryan was the principal photographer and photo editor for Modernist Cuisine and that explains the beautifully shot pictures and videos that you see on the ChefSteps website. WARNING: ChefSteps is a site that you should not view on a empty stomach!
ChefSteps isn’t just another online cooking school. There is true class and pedigree here and it is no empty claim to say that you are learning from the best of the best. It’s the closest you can get to learning from world class chefs without paying astronomical fees! You can get plenty of good stuff for free and where you need to pay, you never have to pay anything more than $20! Amazing!
There’s so much you can learn on the ChefSteps site and they’ve got lots of interesting classes. You get articles and recipes with videos and pictures that are beautifully shot. The layout is very clear and direct. If you have visited other recipe or cooking websites, you will find that they are usually cluttered and you are often bombarded by lots of banner ads or pop ups ads. Not so with ChefSteps. They give you the info you seek, without distractions.
